A CASE OF FALSE ANALOGY
“HUSBAND AND WIFE ARE ONE FLESH” IS THE
SAME WAY AS “THREE PERSONS IN ONE”?
TO INSIST THAT God is three
persons but one God (triune God), Trinitarians compared their “trinity” with
the “husband and wife relationship.”
A Trinitarian made an attempt to answer
our “simple math” argument that shows that the doctrine of Trinity is illogical
and does not make sense: "God the Father plus God the Son plus God the Holy
Spirit equals One God (1 + 1 + 1 = 1)?"
He claims that this is not a “sound
argument” because as what he contend “We
see similar use of language in the Bible concerning a husband and wife."
This is what he further said:
“We see a husband and wife called both 2 and
1. They are 2 persons, but they are 1 flesh. They are 2 in a different way than
they are 1. In the same way, God is 3 in a different way than he is one.”
For him “1 + 1 + 1 = 1” is not
wrong because, as he claims, it is similar with “husband and wife as one flesh”
which he said is “1 + 1 = 1.” Believing that he made a point, he challenge
us to explain how “husband and wife are one flesh.” He said:
“If the INC wishes to affirm this biblical
teaching on marriage and continue using this argument about ‘simple math’, they
must answer this question: 1 + 1 = 1?”
He challenge us that if we are
going to continue using the “simple math argument” that Trinity is wrong
because “1 + 1 + 1 = 1” is illogical and does not make sense, he argued that we “must answer this question 1 + 1 = 1?”
Confident that he made a point, he
repeated his challenge that we explain how “husband and wife equal one flesh”
or as he assumed is 1 + 1 = 1. He even added that if we “were to be consistent”
in using the “simple math” argument, he continues to challenge us to answer the
question “1 + 1 = 1?”:
“If the INC were to be consistent in how
they use this "simple math" argument then they would need to answer
the following question:
1 + 1 = 1?
Assuming we cannot answer his
question, he immediately accused us of being inconsistent. He said:
“in relation to the unification of a man and
a woman in marriage. Thankfully, the INC is inconsistent on this point and
accepst marriage as defined in the Bible. Yet, when the INC rejects the 1 + 1 =
1? argument and accepts the 1 + 1 + 1 = 1? argument, they expose themselves to
be ignorant of what the doctrine of the Trinity teaches. Obviously, the Bible
is not trying to contradict rules of math. The doctrine of the Trinity does not
either.”
He argued that we are inconsistent because we reject the 1 +
1 = 1 and accept 1 + 1 + 1 = 1. Are they correct in saying "husband and wife are one flesh" is "1 + 1 = 1"?
CHALLENGE ACCEPTED
In concluding that “husband and
wife are one flesh” is “1 + 1 = 1” shows how ignorant the Trinitarians regarding
the teachings of the Bible. It is not surprising that they distorted the truth
in saying the “husband and wife are flesh” is “1 + 1 = 1” because this is also
what they did in the biblical doctrine about the absolute oneness of God,
making the biblical doctrine of one true God as “1 + 1 + 1 = 1”.
Are Trinitarians correct in
saying that “husband and wife are one flesh” is “1 + 1 = 1”? We don’t know if
they don’t know it or they deliberately ignored it just to make a point that
the Bible has an explanation in saying the “husband and wife are one flesh.”
Apostle Paul explained this in Ephesians 5:31, 23 and 28-29:
“For
this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife,
and the two shall become one flesh.
“For
the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his
body, and is himself its Savior.
“Even
so husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife
loves himself. For no man ever hates his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes
it, as Christ does the church.” (Ephesians 5:31, 23, 28-29 RSV)
Apostle Paul quoted what the Holy
Scriptures says, “For this reason a man
shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall
become one flesh.”
He also explained why husband and
wife are one flesh. He said, “For the
husband is the HEAD OF THE WIFE... so husbands should love their wives AS THEIR
OWN BODIES.”
Thus, the relationship of husband and wife is not “1 + 1 = 1,”
but:
head (husband) + body (wife) = one flesh
The Trinitarians distorted the
meaning why the Bible said “husband and wife are one flesh.” They are wrong in
saying that this is “1 + 1 = 1.” What makes us more certain that Trinitarians
are wrong in concluding that “husband and wife are one flesh” is “1 + 1 = 1”? Take
note of this following passage:
“Because
they formerly did not obey, when God's patience waited in the days of Noah, while
the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, EIGHT PERSONS, were
brought safely through water.” (I Peter 3:20-21 ESV, emphasis mine)
The Bible said, “EIGHT PERSONS were brought safely through
water.” Who are these eight persons? Noah and his WIFE, Shem and his WIFE,
Ham and his WIFE, and Japheth and his WIFE. Thus:
Noah (1) + his
wife (1) = Two (2)
Shem (1) + his
wife (1) = Two (2)
Ham (1) + his
wife (1) = Two (2)
Japheth (1) + his wife (1) = Two
(2)
EIGHT PERSONS were brought safely
Thus, I agreed with this
Trinitarian when he said that “Obviously, the
Bible is not trying to contradict rules of math” because “husband and wife
are one flesh” is NOT “1 + 1 = 1” but “head
(husband) + body (wife) = one flesh.”
Remember what this Trinitarian said:
“If the INC wishes to affirm this biblical
teaching on marriage and continue using this argument about ‘simple math’, they
must answer this question: 1 + 1 = 1?”
And he also said:
“If the INC were to be consistent in how
they use this "simple math" argument then they would need to answer
the following question:
1 + 1 = 1?
Thus, Mr. Trinitarian, we are
consistent and we are right. WE ARE CONSISTENT in saying that Trinitarians
distorted the biblical truth that “the Father alone is the one true God” in
saying “1 + 1 + 1 = 1” (God the Father plus God the Son and God the Holy Spirit
is One God) and continues to distort the biblical truth in saying that “husband
and wife are one” is “1 + 1 = 1.” WE ARE RIGHT that trinity is illogical and
does not make sense (“1 + 1 + 1 = 1?”).
CONLEY VS CONLEY
Insisting the falsehood will only
lead you to another falsehood. This is what happened when this Trinitarian
continues to insist the erroneous doctrine of “Triune God.” When he insists
that “1 + 1 + 1 = 1” It led him to another error, “1 + 1 = 1.”
When he continued insisting the erroneous doctrine
of the “Triune God,” this Trinitarian end up in contradicting himself. He said:
“We see a husband and wife called both 2 and
1. They are 2 persons, but they are 1 flesh. They are 2 in a different way than
they are 1. IN THE SAME WAY, God is 3 in a different way than he is one.[1]”
(emphasis mine)
Remember what he said, “They (husband and wife) are 2 in a different way than they are 1. IN
THE SAME WAY, God is 3 in a different way than he is one” take note that
there’s a footnote. This is what he said in his footnote:
“[1] This discussion of a husband and wife IS
NOT MEANT TO BE AN ANALOGY for the being of God. It is simply meant to be an
exercise in thinking through how the language used in reference to marriage is
similar to the language in the biblical doctrine of the trinity.” (emphasis
mine)
Conley: “They (husband and wife) are 2
in a different way than they are 1. IN THE SAME WAY, God is 3 in a different
way than he is one” VS Conley: “This discussion of a husband and wife IS NOT
MEANT TO BE AN ANALOGY for the being of God.”
“In the same way” NOT an “analogy”?
A CASE OF FALSE ANALOGY
Why did this Trinitarian made a footnote
saying that the “discussion of a husband
and wife IS NOT MEANT TO BE AN ANALOGY for the being of God”? Because he
knew the comparison of the “husband and wife relationship” with the “triune God”
is a case of FALSE ANALOGY.
Remember what he said:
“We see a husband and wife called both 2 and
1. They are 2 persons, but they are 1 flesh. They are 2 in a different way than
they are 1. IN THE SAME WAY, God is 3 in a different way than he is one.[1]”
(emphasis mine)
The Bible explains that husband and wife are one flesh
because the husband is the head of his wife, thus:
head (husband) + body (wife) = one flesh
This Trinitarian says “They
are 2 in a different way than they are 1. IN THE SAME WAY, God is 3 in a
different way than he is one.”
If the husband and wife are one flesh because the husband is
the head of his wife and “IN THIS SAME WAY God is three in one, thus in the Trinity,
who is the husband and who is the wife? But they are three, so who is the “third
party”? Also in the Trinity, who is the head and who is the body? But they are three, so what is the
third one?
Trinity is indeed illogical, does not make sense and a
fallacious doctrine. What makes this truly a fallacious doctrine? It
contradicts the biblical doctrine of the absolute oneness of God, that the
Father alone is the one true God:
“Jesus
spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: "Father, the
hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You...
“And
this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus
Christ whom You have sent.” (John 17:1, 3 NKJV)
The Lord Jesus Christ Himself testified that the Father
alone is the one true God, and He is the one sent by the one true God.
CONCLUSION
The truth the Bible teaches is that
the Father alone is the one true God. So, the teaching that there are three
persons in One God is a distortion of the biblical truth regarding the absolute
oneness of the true God. The Bible tells us that:
“He
writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His
letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and
unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own
destruction.” (II Peter 3:16 NIV)
Certainly, Mr. Clifford Conley Owens will
not be able to come to the knowledge of who the true God is because he rejected
those God appointed to teach the true knowledge of God:
“It
is the duty of priests to teach the true knowledge of God. People should go to
them to learn my will, because they are the messengers of the LORD Almighty.” (Malachi
2:7 TEV)
God Himself commanded us to “go
to them to learn my will, because they are the messengers of the LORD Almighty.”
We should listen to the words of God with an open mind and heart. We should ask questions to know about the truth not to prove our point.
