Does God Exist? The Strongest Evidence Proving the Existence of God

DOES GOD EXIST?

FOR MANY OF those who do not believe in God and ask this question if God exist, they insist that this question be answered according to their own standard which means you have to show them only “evidences” they wanted to see and dismiss otherwise. Because they already set their mind to accept only evidences they wanted to see, they insist to show to them only those they want, and will easily dismiss otherwise.

“SHOW ME YOUR GOD”

“Show me your God?” This what many of those who don’t believe in God wanted in order for them to believe that God truly exists. However, the Bible explicitly tells us that God is spirit:

“God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” (John 4:24 NKJV)

Because God is spirit, we cannot see Him or God is invisible:

“Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, to God who alone is wise, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.” (I Timothy 1:17 NKJV)

It is a fact that not because we cannot see it, it means it does not exist. Like air, atom, electricity and many else, these are not visible, but it does not mean that they do not exist. “Life” itself cannot be seen, heard or touched, but there are proofs or evidences that “life” truly exists.

It is ridiculous that a person insists to show him “life” itself or else he will not believe it exists. A living thing grows, moves and many else that proves that it has life. What do you of a person that after you show him other evidences that life truly exists but immediately dismiss these evidences and still insists to show him life itself or else he will not believe that it exists?

Thus, we must not insist to “show God” for He is an invisible spirit. However, although we cannot see God Himself, but it does not mean that He does not exists.

“PHYSICAL EVIDENCE PLEASE”

Others demand for “physical” or “material” evidence. However, because God is spirit, He is not only invisible, but He has no flesh and bones:

“And He said to them, "Why are you troubled? And why do doubts arise in your hearts? Behold My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself. Handle Me and see, for a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see I have.” (Luke 24:38-39 NKJV)

If we cannot show you any physical or material evidence to prove that God exists, you will easily conclude that God does not exist? Then, you must also dismiss the “Big Bang theory” because there are no physical or material evidence to prove that it really occurred. Others might point to the elements in the universe, the stars, the planets and others as material evidences for the Big Bang theory. However, existence of the elements, suns and others does not follow that these were created through the “Big Bang.” No direct evidence that one can show that these are created through the Big Bang. Also take note, “missing link” in the so-called “evolution of man” means lack of material of physical evidences.

My point is, why insisting for physical or material evidences or else you will not believe that God exists? Lacking or having no material or physical evidences is not sufficient to conclude that God does not exist because there are other evidences that can prove that God truly exists, unless you are ridiculous enough having already set your mind to accept only those evidences you want to see and dismiss otherwise.

“SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE”?

Proving through experimentation? However, how can we experiment God? Because of this, can we conclude that God does not exist? If so, why hang on “evolution”? Evolution cannot also be proven through experimentation.

Concerning God, the Book of Job rhetorically asks, thus:

“Can you search out the deep things of God? Can you find out the limits of the Almighty? They are higher than heaven-what can you do? Deeper than Sheol-what can you know? Their measure is longer than the earth And broader than the sea.” (Job 11:7-9 NKJV)

New Living Translation renders the following verse as follows:

“Can you solve the mysteries of God? Can you discover everything about the Almighty? Such knowledge is higher than the heavens—and who are you? It is deeper than the underworld—what do you know? It is broader than the earth and wider than the sea.” (Job 11:7-9 NLT)

EVERYTHING WILL ONLY END

UP IN NON SEQUITUR

Many attempt to show evidences according to man’s standard to prove the existence of God, like the “designer and design” theory and other “scientific evidences,” but this only end up in “non sequitur” (it doesn’t follows).

However, the same is also with the other side. Not because there is a Big Bang it follows that there is no God. Not because there is evolution it follows that there is no God. Not because you can explain everything through science it follows that there is no God.

Everything will only end up in Non Sequitur, in an endless debate.

Thus, let us not attempt to prove the existence of God through man’s standard. Skeptics must open their mind and stop insisting to show to them evidences of the existence of God which they prefer and dismiss otherwise.

Please carefully examine the following evidences with an open mind.

THE STRONGEST EVIDENCE

THAT GOD REALLY EXISTS

The strongest evidence that God truly exists is the words of God written in the Bible. We are certain that Aristotle, Plato, Socrates and many more existed because their work survived.

Proving that the Bible is indeed the words of God proves that God really exists. There is no word of God if there is no God. If the Bible is the word of God, thus there is God who spoken those words. Why are we certain that the Bible is indeed the words of God?

HOW TRUE THE BIBLE IS 

THE WORD OF GOD?

WHAT GOD WAS, THE WORD WAS

God is unique in that He is almighty (Gen. 17:1). He has unlimited power. His will always comes to pass since nothing could ever prevent its fulfillment. God’s words possess the same quality:

“For no word from God shall be void of power.” (Luke 1:37, ASV)

Every word from the Almighty God has power. Like God Himself, His words are of unlimited power. How is God’s power manifested in His words?

“Bring in your idols to tell us what is going to happen. Tell us what the former things were, so that we may consider them and know their final outcome. Or declare to us the things to come, tell us what the future holds, so we may know that you are gods. Do something, whether good or bad, so that we will be dismayed and filled with fear.” (Is. 41:22-23, NIV)

God is able to declare what the future holds. He can tell us the things to come long before they happen. False gods, such as idols and graven images, cannot do or say anything, let alone declare the future. And it is this power of God, which can be seen when what He says come to pass, that proves that He alone is the true God. God is able to “make known the end from the beginning” – or declare what will ultimately and certainly come to pass – because He himself, with His infinite power, brings His words to fulfillment (Is. 46:9-10). This characteristic of God and of His words distinguishes Him from man. Man by Himself cannot “declare the things to come” since he cannot foretell even the day of his own death (Js. 4:14).

Therefore, God’s power and the power of His words are found in no other. This power of the divine word, “declaring the things to come,” cannot be found in any “human text.”

Is the Bible truly God’s word? Did the writers of the biblical books truly write through God’s inspiration? How true that what they wrote are indeed God’s words? Only the scripture that have the power of the divine word or the attributes of the word of God can rightfully claim to be the Sacred Scripture where the words of God are indeed written.

DECLARING WHAT THE FUTURE HOLDS

The Bible contains several examples of God’s words that were declared long ago but were appointed to take place in the time when the end is near. One of these is that written in Revelation chapter 6:12-13:

“I looked when He opened the sixth seal, and behold, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became like blood. And the stars of heaven fell to the earth, as a fig tree drops its late figs when it is shaken by a mighty wind.” (Revelation 6:12-13 NKJV)

In this verse, the Bible is telling about a “great earthquake.” Although there were many “great earthquakes” happened in the past, but the Bible explicitly tells us that this “great earthquake” is followed by the “sun became black as sackcloth of hair,” the “moon became like blood,” and the “stars of heaven fell to the earth.” These distinguished the “great earthquake” of Revelation 6:12-13 from other earthquakes occurred in the past.

The fulfillment of this “great earthquake” is the earthquake of 1755 in Lisbon, Portugal. The Lisbon earthquake is one of the strongest earthquakes recorded, felt in a radius of about forty times larger that the United Kingdom and claimed 6,000 lives (The Physical Earth, pp. 28-29).

 We are certain that the Lisbon earthquake of 1755 is the fulfillment of the “great earthquake” mentioned in Revelation 6:12-13, because this is the earthquake followed by the “sun became black as sackcloth of hair and the moon became like blood” which the fulfillment is what history called as the “Black Friday” of May 19, 1780 in New England (The New International Encyclopedia, volume VI, p. 502).

Take note that according to the Book of Revelation the “great earthquake” was followed by “sun became black as sackcloth of hair and the “moon became like blood” which followed by “stars of heaven fell to the earth.”

The fulfillment of the “stars of heaven fell to the earth” that followed the “sun became black as sackcloth of hair” and the “moon became like blood” is the “meteor shower” of 1833. In the night of November 12, 1833, hundreds of meteorites (also called “falling stars”) seen in the whole eastern part of the United States (N.E.S., p. 1217).

Take note of the following:

Revelation 6:12-13 “I looked when He opened the sixth seal, and behold there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became like blood. And the stars of heaven fell to the earth, as a fig tree drops its late figs when it is shaken by a mighty wind.” (Revelation 6:12-13 NKJV)

The “great earthquake” followed by the “sun became black as sackcloth of hair,” the “moon became like blood,” and the “stars of heaven fell to the earth” mentioned in Revelation 6:12-13 is followed by the coming of the “great day of their wrath”:

“The sky receded like a scroll, rolling up, and every mountain and island was removed from its place.  Then the kings of the earth, the princes, the generals, the rich, the mighty, and every slave and every free man hid in caves and among the rocks of the mountains. They called to the mountains and the rocks, "Fall on us and hide us from the face of him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb! For the great day of their wrath has come, and who can stand?” (Revelation 6:14-17 NIV)

Because of the “great day of the wrath” of the Lord, the “sky receded like a scroll, rolling up, and every mountain and island was removed from its place.” The “great day of the wrath” of the Lord mentioned in Revelation is not the Day of Judgment but a war which also mentioned in the prophecy written in the Book of Isaiah:

“Come near, you nations, and listen; pay attention, you peoples! Let the earth hear, and all that is in it, the world, and all that comes out of it!  The LORD is angry with all nations; his wrath is upon all their armies. He will totally destroy them, he will give them over to slaughter.

“All the stars of the heavens will be dissolved and the sky rolled up like a scroll; all the starry host will fall like withered leaves from the vine, like shriveled figs from the fig tree.” (Isaiah 34:1-2, 4 NIV)

What the Book of Revelation mentioned that “the sky receded like a scroll” is also mentioned in Isaiah 34:1-2 and 4, “the sky rolled up like a scroll.” Isaiah also mentioned the “wrath” of the Lord. Thus, Revelation 6:12-13 and Isaiah 34:1-2 and 4 are related prophecies.

The prophecy of Revelation 6:12-13 and the prophecy of Isaiah 34:1-2 and 4 are both referring to a “great war.” Isaiah said, “Come near, you nations, and listen; pay attention, you peoples! Let the earth hear, and all that is in it, the world, and all that comes out of it!  The LORD is angry with all nations; his wrath is upon all their armies. He will totally destroy them, he will give them over to slaughter.”

Because of this “great war,” according to Revelation “The sky receded like a scroll, rolling up, and every mountain and island was removed from its place...” The “sky” or “heaven” mentioned by the Book of Revelation refers to the “heavens of men” (Lev. 26:19), and the “glory of the kings” (Is. 14:18). The “mountains that were removed” refers to “kings” (Rev. 17:9-10).

The prophecy indeed came to past. The “great war” referred to by the biblical prophecies is the “Great War” of 1914-1918” also called as First World War (WWI):

“The first great campaign on the southeastern battle grounds of the Great War began on July 27, 1914, when the Austrian troops undertook their first invasion of Serbia.” (The Story of the Great War from official Sources, p. 291).

As the prophecy said, the “sky receded like a scroll, rolling up, and every mountain and island was removed from its place,” the emperor of Russia, Austria and Germany were dethroned, and also the kings of Greece and Bulgaria, because of the First World War. Also, the government of these nations was changed (Modern Times and the Living past, p. 687).

The “islands” that were “removed from its place” were the “colonies.” Like the colonies of Germany in the Pacific, after the Great War, were transferred to Japan and England (M.T.L.P., pp. 707-707).

How about the hiding in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains of the “kings of the earth, the princes, the generals, the rich, the mighty, and every slave and every free man”” This is the testimony of the history:

“The First World War was unlike any war in the past…This was the first war in ‘three dimensions,’ the first war in which cities were bombed from the air and winged warriors fought among the clouds. Of course the airplanes of 1914 were not so past, so formidable, nor so numerous as those of today…The soldiers had to turn themselves into beavers and moles and dig deep trenches…” (W.Hist., pp. 478-479)

The great War of 1914-1918 was the first war which cities were bombed from the air, thus people have to hide themselves in the air-raid shelters. The soldiers had to turn themselves into beavers and moles and dig deep trenches.

Take note that the First World War that began in 1914 was also the war that was followed by the “four angels” holding back the “wind”:

“After these things I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, on the sea, or on any tree.” (Revelation 7:1 NKJV)

The “wind” refers to a “war” (Jer. 4:11-13 and 19). The “four corners of the earth” refers to the “four directions of the earth” (I Chron. 9:24). Thus, “wind of the four corners of the earth” is referring to the world war.

The word “angel” came from the Greek word which literally means “messenger,” and messenger means “sent.” According to Apostle Peter, the kings, governor or leaders of nation are “sent by Him”:

“Therefore submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake, whether to the king as supreme, or to governors, as to those who are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and for the praise of those who do good.” (I Peter 2:13-14 NKJV)

The fulfillment of the prophecy:

“Orlando of Italy, Lloyd George of Great Britain, Clemenceau of France, and Wilson of America who were called the Big Four when they met in Paris to confer concerning the Treaty of Versailles.” (World History, p. 494)

The Bible also explicitly said that there was “silence in heaven for about half an hour” when the seventh seal was opened:

“When He opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour.” (Revelation 8:1 NKJV)

As already mentioned, the “heaven” refers to “heavens of men” (Lev. 26:19). Also take note that “one day to God is one thousand years to man”:

“But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.” (II Peter 3:8 NKJV)

One day to God is one thousand years to man. One day is 24 hours. Dividing one thousand years with 24 hours is “one hour is 41 years and 8 months.”

One day       =        One thousand years

24 hors        =        1,000 years

1 hours        =        41 years and 8 months

Half hour     =        20 years and 10 months

Did the prophecy come to past?

First World War ended on November 11, 1918

Second World War started on September 1, 1939

         YEAR               MONTH               DAY

          20 years              9 months          20 days

Indeed, Revelation 8:1 came to past.

THE TRUTHFULNESS OF THE

WORDS OF THE BIBLE

Another quality of the words of God is its truthfulness. As the Bible says:

“Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.” (John 17:17 NKJV)

The Bible is an ancient book. The last book of the Bible was written more than two thousand years ago. However, it contains facts opposed or against the general perception of its days, but proven true to our day as knowledge of men regarding science, medicine, astronomy and history advanced. Take note of the following:

“It is He who sits above the circle of the earth, And its inhabitants are like grasshoppers, Who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, And spreads them out like a tent to dwell in.” (Isaiah 40:22 NKJV)

For thousands of years prior to Magellan’s circumnavigation of the earth, the general perception was that the earth was flat. It was then accepted as a scientific truth despite the great strides man has taken on the fields of science since the birth of civilization. Only after Magellan sailed the seas in the 5th century was it established and confirmed that the earth is not flat but spherical in shape.

For about three thousand years ago, the Bible already mentioned the following:

“He stretches out the north over empty space; He hangs the earth on nothing.” (Job 26:7 NKJV)

The ancient Greeks were one of the most advanced peoples of their time, yet they believed that the earth was held in place by poles or by the neck of Atlas. Others believed that Atlas had the earth on his shoulders. Today, this belief is considered absurd, if not funny. But had the Greeks consulted the Bible they would not have embraced such peculiar concept of the earth.

The passage of the Bible also mentioned “He stretches out the north over empty space.” This scientific fact was only established only after the telescope was invented:

 “Astronomers have discovered that there is a great empty space in the North. It contains no moving planets and shining stars. By turning their telescope to the South, the East, and the West, men may behold countless millions of stars invisible to the naked eye but when the telescope is set exactly to the North there is a great empty space. For this astronomers have been unable to account. They did not know until recently that there was such and empty space.” (WWBTB, p. 50)

Actually, there are more, but what we mentioned are enough to establish the truthfulness of the words written in the Bible that proves that the Bible is indeed the word of God.

SCIENCE AND THE BIBLE

What must we understand concerning the foundation of science? A chemist, John W. Hill, admitted:

“Scientists, like other human beings, use intuition and generalize from few facts. Sometimes they are wrong.” (Chemistry of Changing Times, p. 6)

Science, it should be noted, is anchored on human experience and knowledge and, therefore, is subject to error. What further proves that science is not infallible and cannot be the supreme arbiter on the “ultimate truth”? In his book entitle “Science, God and You”, Enno Wolthvis states:

“The history of science clearly shows that what is considered scientifically true today may not be so tomorrow.” (p. 47)

Hence, it is not an exaggeration to say that today’s scientific facts may be tomorrow’s myths. John W. Hill added that science, as a theoretical framework, is constantly changing, “ for scientific models are constantly being reevaluated and revised as new data is obtained” (Chemistry for Changing Times, p. 8)

What conclusion can we draw from the above statements about science? That science is not as reliable as others may wish or claim it to be. Science, as history attests, has always been subject to change and revision. On the other hand, how dependable are the words of God written in the Bible? In Isaiah 40:8 this is what the Bible says:

“The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.” (KJV)

The words of God can withstand all scrutiny; they are error-proof and are surely bound to happen. How strong and powerful are God’s words? Christ said:

“I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.”(Mt. 5:18 NIV)

Thus, a non-theologian and a man of science like Sir Isaac Newton expressed faith and confidence in the veracity of the Bible. He said:

“There are more sure marks of authenticity in the Bible than in any profane history” (Halley’s Bible Handbook, p.19).

CONCLUSION

Therefore, the Bible is indeed the word of God. “What God was, the word was.” God’s power to declare what the future holds, telling us the things to come long before they happen. Since the power of God’s words are found in the words written in the Bible, the Bible also declares what the future holds, long before it happens. Thus the Bible is indeed not a human text, not a collection of myth, not in equal status with other “scriptures,” but the only Sacred Scripture where the words of God are written.

The truth that the Bible is indeed the words of God proves the existence of God. Thus, the Bible was sent to us not only to teach us the will of God that we must obey, but as a testimony, a proof that God really exist.  This is what God said to the skeptics and agnostics:

“Now prepare yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer Me: ‘Would you indeed annul My judgment? Would you condemn Me that you may be justified?” (Job 40:7-8 NKJV)

    

“Who is this that questions my wisdom with such ignorant words? Brace yourself like a man, because I have some questions for you, and you must answer them.

“Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell me, if you know so much. Who determined its dimensions and stretched out the surveying line? What supports its foundations, and who laid its cornerstone.”  (Job 382-7 NLT)

Where were you when I created the earth? Tell me, since you know so much! Who decided on its size? Certainly you'll know that! Who came up with the blueprints and measurements? How was its foundation poured, and who set the cornerstone, (Job 322-6 The Message)

“I am the LORD, your savior; I am the one who created you. I am the LORD, the Creator of all things. I alone stretched out the heavens; when I made the earth, no one helped me...The words of the wise I refute and show that their wisdom is foolishness.” (Isaiah 44:24-25 TEV)
