“Almost
all who profess they are Christians and that they believe in the Bible also
believe in the immortality of the soul. So I was surprised to find out that
Iglesia ni Cristo rejects this doctrine. Why?”
“THE IGLESIA NI CRISTO” ANSWERS
Does the Bible teach the
immortality of the soul? This is what the Bible says in Ezekiel 18:4:
“Behold,
all souls are Mine; The soul of the father As well as the soul of the son is
Mine; The soul who sins shall die.” (Ezekiel
18:4 NKJV)
Since all men have sinned and
fall short of the glory of God (cf. Rom.
3:23), thus, upon a person’s death, the soul dies. The Bible also tells us that
when a person dies his soul cleaves to the dust:
“My
soul clings to the dust…” (Psalms 119:25
NKJV)
Because the soul dies when a
person dies, the Bible also teaches that a person who dies will bever return to
his house, nor shall
“As
the cloud disappears and vanishes away, So he who goes down to the grave does
not come up. He shall never return to his house, Nor shall his place know him
anymore.” (Job 7:9-10 NKJV)
Therefore, the belief on the immortality
of the soul contradicts the teaching of the Bible. The Holy Scriptures
explicitly tell us that upon a person’s death, the soul dies.
