Does I Timothy 4:4-5 say that eating of blood is
already allowed?
“For everything God created is good, and nothing is to
be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, because it is consecrated by the word of God
and prayer.” (NIV)
Nothing in the verse that says that eating of
blood is already allowed or the prohibition in eating blood is already abolished.
It is only their interpretation of the verse.
Why are we
certain that their interpretation of the verse is wrong?
(1) There are verses in the New Testament that
explicitly say that eating of blood is still not allowed. Acts 21:25 reads:
“But as for the Gentiles who have become believers, we
have sent them a letter telling them we decided that they must not eat any food
that has been offered to idols, or any blood, or any animal that has been
strangled, and that they must keep themselves from sexual immorality.” (Acts
21:25, TEV)
Acts 15:24 also says:
“The Holy Spirit and we have agreed not to put any
other burden on you besides these necessary rules: eat no food that has been
offered to idols; eat no blood; eat no animal that has been strangled; and keep
yourselves from sexual immorality. You will do well if you take care not to do
these things. With our best wishes.” (Acts 15:28-29, TEV)
Thus, although
they continue to show other verses of the New Testament to prove their
contention, but we assure you that nowhere in those verses that says that “eating
of blood is already allowed in the Christian Era” because the Bible will not
contradict itself.
(2) The issue in I Timothy 4:4-5 is not
about the eating of blood. Apostle Paul is only explaining in the verse why “forbidding
to marry” and “commanding to abstain from meats” are said to be “doctrines of
the devil.” Let us quote I Timothy 4:1-5:
“Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter
times some shall depart from the faith, GIVING HEED TO SEDUCING SPIRITS, AND
DOCTRINES OF DEVILS; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared
with a hot iron; FORBIDDING TO MARRY, AND COMMANDING TO ABSTAIN FROM MEATS,
which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe
and know the truth. For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be
refused, if it be received with thanksgiving: For it is sanctified by the word
of God and prayer.” (KJV)
