“MABUHAY, YOU ARE OFFICIALLY AMAZING”

IGLESIA NI CRISTO WORLDWIDE WALK
BROKE TWO WORLD RECORDS

THE IGLESIA NI Cristo’s charity walk on Saturday (February 15, 2014) for victims of Super typhoon “Yolanda” (international name “Haiyan”) broke two (2) the Guinness World Records.

THE LARGEST CHARITY WALK
FOR SINGLE EVENT

“Mabuhay, you are officially amazing,” Kirsty Bennet, Guinness World Record adjudicator, said after announcing that the INC had topped the record previously held by Singapore Holdings Ltd. for an event that drew 77,500 participants in a single event on May 21, 2000. The Iglesia Ni Cristo Worldwide Walk for the Victims of Yolanda drew at least 175,000 people to a 1.6-kilometer walkathon along Manila’s bayside Roxas Boulevard.

The Manila participants came from different cities in Metro Manila and nearby provinces such as Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, Pampanga and Batangas.

As early as 5:00 pm of the eve of the event, thousands were already arriving at CCP ground, Manila.

The walkers, clad in white shirts, gathered on the grounds of the Cultural Center of the Philippines starting at 6 a.m. and began walking to Rizal Park at 7 a.m.

Bennet announced the feat at 6 p.m. before the cheering members of the Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church Of Christ) at the Quirino Grandstand.

THE LARGEST CHARITY WALK FOR
MULTIPLE EVENTS WITHIN 24 HOURS

Other charity walks were also held simul-taneously in 85 areas in the Philippines and some 55 sites in 29 other countrieswhich broke another Guinness record for the biggest number of participants in multiple sites. “Starting in New Zealand and ending in Hawaii.

The current multiple-site record is held by the green communities in Canada who drew 231,635 participants in 1,011 different locations in Canada on Oct. 2, 2007. The INC Worldwide Walk drew at least 500,000.

THE MAIN GOAL OF THE EVENT

“We want to call the attention of the world through this world record that Yolanda victims still need help,” Brother Edwil Zabala, the INC spokeperson, said.

The money raised through the P250 registration fee paid by each participant would go to the church’s sociocivic arm, the Felix Y. Manalo Foundation, which will manage the fund primarily for members of the INC who lost their houses and livelihood when Yolanda ripped through Central Visayas on Nov. 8.

The Iglesia Ni Cristo Administration aim to build housing and livelihood communities in the Church’s owned 3,000 hectares land in Leyte, Philippines, for thousands of Yolanda victims in Tacloban, Leyte.

Back on Jan. 11 and 12, INC congregations all over the world announced the plan to hold the event dubbed as the “Iglesia Ni Cristo Worldwide Walk for those Affected by Typhoon Yolanda.”

“For members of the church, we are aiming primarily to assist their recovery in terms of housing and permanent livelihood activities,” Zabala said, adding that the stress debriefing and relief programs started by the INC a week after Yolanda struck would continue.

Meanwhile, pollution watchdog EcoWaste Coalition on Saturday commended the religious organization for mounting a generally trash-free event.

MANIFESTATIONS OF LOVE, UNITY AND BROTHERHOOD

This charity walk was held by the Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church Of Christ) members in fulfilling the teachings of the Bible stating:

“…You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,' and 'your neighbor as yourself.'” (Luke 10:27 NKJV)

The worldwide event shows not only how united the members of the Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church of Christ, but it also manifested how the members of the Church taught to love God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind through loving our neighbors as ourselves.

These are all for the glory of the Lord God.
